All India Tribal Convention Concludes in Visakhapatnam, Addressing Tribal Rights and Environmental Concerns
Visakhapatnam, May 21, 2023: The All India Tribal Convention concluded on a high note at the Alluri Sitharama Raju Vignana Kendram in Dabagardens, Visakhapatnam. The event spanned several days and served as a platform to address the pressing challenges faced by tribal communities, including the infringement upon their rights by government actions and the threats posed to forests and the environment by corporate entities and multinational companies (MNCs).
During the convention, tribal leaders from various states, including Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Manipur, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and several districts of Andhra Pradesh, came together to discuss and deliberate on the critical issues affecting their communities.
Under the guidance of the committee’s conveners, Dharmula Suresh from Andhra Pradesh, Mukti Satyam from Telangana, and Kedar Sabara from Odisha, the convention addressed a wide range of concerns. These included the seizure of tribal lands, the loss of livelihoods, deliberate attacks on cultural identity and languages, the disregard for anti-colonial tribal heroes, and the disturbing attempts to sow division and conflict among tribal groups.
The event witnessed the active participation of renowned tribal author, activist, and former member of Jharkhand Women’s Commission, Vasavi Kiro, who shared valuable insights and experiences with the attendees.
The All India Tribal Convention not only facilitated meaningful discussions but also paved the way for strategic planning and collective action to protect tribal rights and preserve the environment. By fostering unity and empowering tribal communities, the convention played a pivotal role in strengthening their voice and advocating for justice.
As the convention concluded, its impact resonated throughout the attendees, instilling a renewed sense of determination and resilience in the fight for tribal rights and the conservation of forests and the environment. The participants left with a strengthened resolve to continue working towards a more equitable and sustainable future for tribal communities across India.
