The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) is making significant strides in its mission to promote cricket in the state. ACA Secretary, Gopinath Reddy, recently announced ambitious plans for the construction of a colossal integrated stadium alongside the existing PM Palem cricket stadium. The proposed stadium aims to accommodate between 50,000 to 60,000 spectators, effectively doubling the current capacity of 27 thousand people.

During a press conference held at a city hotel, Reddy expressed his joy at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) granting Visakhapatnam YSR ACA VDCA Stadium the privilege of hosting two high-profile matches. The stadium is set to witness an exciting T20 clash between India and Australia on November 23, followed by a Test match against England scheduled from February 2 to February 6, 2024.

The ACA Secretary acknowledged that these matches are a testament to BCCI’s recognition of the association’s unwavering dedication to cricket’s development in Andhra Pradesh. He credited ACA President Sarathchandra Reddy for securing this opportunity, especially after the city missed out on hosting World Cup matches previously.

Addressing the media, Gopinath Reddy reassured the public that ACA is determined to resume training programs at its academies, which were disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The association has been actively working on the development of the cricket ground and has already completed some essential infrastructure improvements. Furthermore, ACA is contemplating the establishment of new grounds in various regions of the state to encourage grassroots cricket.

In response to recent allegations published in ‘Eenadu’ titled ‘Political scandal on Andhra Cricket Association,’ Reddy clarified the situation and highlighted the association’s commitment to transparency and progress. He disclosed that the ACA had discussed matters concerning the election of ombudsman, selection of governing council, and cricket committees during a special general meeting held on April 2, 2023. Subsequently, the High Court issued a single bench stay on certain decisions, leading ACA to approach the Division Bench for relief. The Division Bench granted exemptions from specific conditions imposed by the Single Judge and directed a fresh trial. The investigation has now concluded, and the judgment is reserved.

Reddy firmly stated that ACA is free from politics and ensures that family members are not part of any committees, affirming the association’s impartial approach to governance. He also debunked claims of undue pressure on BCCI to host matches, asserting that the cricket board is content with ACA’s programs and initiatives.

As ACA continues to overcome challenges, the association remains dedicated to the overall development and progress of cricket in Andhra Pradesh. The proposed integrated stadium and the privilege of hosting high-profile matches serve as a testament to ACA’s commitment to elevating the state’s cricketing stature.
