The road construction activities undertaken by the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation in Visakhapatnam have come under scrutiny, raising concerns among residents. Issues such as abandoned vehicles and incomplete road works have sparked criticism from locals.

In various wards of the city, efforts to repair potholed roads and lay new ones on damaged old roads are being carried out by the municipal corporation. However, the manner in which these works are being executed has left some residents perplexed.

One particular instance in Abid Nagar, 44th ward, has garnered attention. New asphalt roads were being laid on top of the existing ones, while vehicles, including a car and a two-wheeler, were left abandoned at different spots. This has led to questions regarding the logic behind such practices and whether these efforts will result in complete and satisfactory road construction.

Residents have expressed their frustration, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach rather than patchwork. They have called for the removal of abandoned vehicles and a focus on completing the road works effectively.

When approached for comments, the GVMC contractor, Kurmanath, explained that attempts were made to contact vehicle owners obstructing the construction. However, in some cases, owners were unavailable, causing delays in the removal process. The contractor assured that efforts would be made to locate vehicle owners promptly and complete the road works as planned.

The concerns raised by residents highlight the importance of efficient and thorough road construction practices that prioritize the convenience and safety of commuters. The Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation will need to address these issues and ensure that the ongoing road construction works are carried out seamlessly, providing the city with reliable and well-constructed roadways.
