TheVizag.com – The popular toy train operation on Kailasagiri, a major tourist attraction in Visakha, is currently shrouded in uncertainty and controversy. Last Friday, the officials initiated the operation of the train, now under the management of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) itself, rebranded as ‘Visakha Darshan.’ The program was carried out under the supervision of In-charge Commissioner Mallikarjuna, with guidance from VMRDA Chairperson Akkaramani Vijayanirmala. However, this transition has sparked a dispute between the former managers and VMRDA over the project.

For some time now, the former managers have been engaging in correspondence with VMRDA, demanding payment of tax arrears, both by themselves and the authority. Last month, VMRDA issued a three-day notice and subsequently took control of the project. Claiming that the VMRDA violated regulations within the public-private partnership (PPP) agreement, the organizers have resorted to legal action. They assert that the authority encroached upon their project without adhering to the required 180-day notice period before taking possession.

To assess the viability of the project and explore possibilities for its revival, the organizers have consulted with railway officials. Meanwhile, the VMRDA has been steadfast in its position, maintaining that the takeover was conducted lawfully and in the best interests of the public. The authority remains committed to restoring and preserving the toy train services on Kailasagiri.

The dispute surrounding the toy train operation has drawn criticism from various quarters, with allegations of partisanship and procedural irregularities. The future of the project hangs in the balance as both parties continue to present their arguments before the court. The final verdict will determine the fate of this beloved tourist attraction and its significance for Visakha’s tourism industry.
