Vizag, Tathichetlapalem – A fire erupted at an electric scooter showroom located amidst residential areas in GVMC’s 42nd Ward Dondaparthi area on Sunday night, causing panic among the locals. The incident occurred when thick smoke started billowing from the showroom, followed by a sudden spread of fire.
According to officials from the police and fire brigade, the showroom, which was established as an Ether servicing center three months ago, carried out repairs and charging services for electric vehicles. At around 7:30 PM on Sunday, the situation escalated as the fire rapidly intensified, prompting residents to raise the alarm.
Immediate action was taken as the fire brigade, police, and electricity department officials were alerted. In a bid to contain the situation, the electricity department promptly cut off the power supply to the showroom and the nearby houses. Firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze.
Unfortunately, the fire resulted in significant damage, with many electric vehicles and new batteries within the showroom being completely consumed by the flames. The exact number of vehicles destroyed and the extent of the property damage are yet to be determined. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit or a fire originating from the vehicle batteries.
The incident left the local community shaken. The presence of an electric scooter servicing center in the heart of the residential area led to widespread fear as the fire rapidly spread and thick smoke engulfed the vicinity. As a safety measure, power supply was cut off, plunging the area into darkness. The dense smoke caused irritation and burning sensation in the eyes of nearby residents, resulting in considerable distress. In the chaos, numerous residents fled their homes out of fear, fueled by rumors that the fire might extend to neighboring houses.
Authorities are currently assessing the damage caused by the fire and conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with electrical facilities located in close proximity to residential areas, necessitating greater precautions and safety measures in such cases.
