The GVMC Commissioner said that the corporation is taking several initiatives to promote cleanliness and combat pollution in Visakhapatnam. One of these initiatives is the launch of a new campaign called ‘Eco-Vizag.’ The campaign will focus on five components: eco-cleaning, greenery, water conservation, plastic ban, and pollution reduction.
Under the eco-cleaning component, the GVMC plans to encourage waste management and segregation. They will also raise awareness about the harmful effects of open dumping and the importance of maintaining cleanliness. To increase greenery in the city, steps will be taken to plant more trees within the corporation limits. Additionally, the GVMC will continue beach cleaning activities and promote rainwater harvesting techniques for water conservation.
In its efforts to combat plastic pollution, the corporation is striving to introduce alternative products to plastic. To raise awareness about eco-friendly alternatives and sustainable practices, an eco-mela will be organized. The launch of the ‘Eco-Vizag’ campaign will be a grand event held at R.K Beach on June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day. It is expected that Municipal Administration Minister A. Suresh, District in-charge Minister V. Rajini, Mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari, and other public representatives will attend the event.
To ensure the effective implementation of the campaign, the GVMC is preparing ten enforcement teams. Each team will consist of two officials who will conduct inspections, provide suggestions, address complaints, and organize programs related to the campaign. Special vehicles will be provided to these teams to support their efforts. Through the ‘Eco-Vizag’ campaign, the GVMC aims to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment in Visakhapatnam.
