Roopa Mishra, the Joint Secretary and Mission Director of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM), recently visited various projects in Visakhapatnam under the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). Accompanied by GVMC Commissioner CM Saikanth Varma, Mishra inspected the 15 MW waste-to-energy plant in Kapuluppada, the biomining project, and the YSR viewpoint, among others.

During a review meeting, Mishra inquired about the progress made under SBM. Commissioner Varma gave a detailed presentation on the city’s initiatives, including waste segregation, organic manure production, underground drainage systems, plastic bans, and pollution control measures. Mishra provided valuable suggestions to the officials during this interaction.

Meanwhile, Mayor G Hari Venkata Kumari urged both the government and private organizations to collaborate with the GVMC in combating the escalating pollution levels in the city. As part of the GVMC’s “no vehicle Monday” program, the mayor set an example by traveling to the office in an RTC bus and later using another bus to return to her residence in Arilova after participating in the “Dial Your Mayor” and “Jaganannaku Chebudam” programs. Hari Venkata Kumari appealed to all stakeholders to extend their cooperation in the fight against pollution.

The GVMC and its officials are committed to implementing the Swachh Bharat Mission’s objectives and ensuring a cleaner and greener future for Visakhapatnam.
