The Labour Department has issued a directive to the managements of industries and builders, urging them to modify the working hours for their staff in light of the ongoing heatwave conditions in the State. The decision to implement these changes was made by the Central and State governments, aiming to safeguard the health and well-being of the workers.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, Joint Commissioner of Labour, M. Rama Rao, stated that in addition to adjusting the timings, managements should adhere to the government’s guidelines by providing “piece rate” wages for the workers. They should also ensure an ample supply of drinking water at the workplace, make ice packs available to prevent heatstroke, and arrange for cool roofs and shaded areas for the workers.
Rama Rao emphasized the importance of the managements’ compliance with these orders, emphasizing the need to prioritize the safety and welfare of the workers during the heatwave conditions.
