In a recent press bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the formation of a Low Pressure Area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts. The system is accompanied by a cyclonic circulation extending up to an altitude of 7.6 kilometers above the mean sea level. The IMD expects the low-pressure area to move in a west-northwestward direction, crossing north Odisha and Jharkhand over the next 48 hours.

The formation of the Low Pressure Area has raised concerns about the potential impact on weather conditions in the region. As a result, the IMD has issued specific wind warnings and weather advisories for the safety of fishermen and the public.

For fishermen operating along the Andhra coast, the weather warning is valid for the next five days, starting from 1330 hours IST on June 25, 2023. However, during this period, no significant weather disturbances are anticipated.

In the Bay of Bengal, excluding the Andhra coast, the IMD has issued a detailed forecast for the coming days. On Day 1 (June 25, 2023), squally winds with speeds reaching 45-55 kmph and gusting up to 65 kmph are expected off the north Andhra Pradesh coast and over the adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal. Additionally, squally weather with wind speeds ranging from 40-45 kmph and gusts up to 50 kmph is likely over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, as well as along and off the Odisha-West Bengal coasts.

Moving to Day 2 (June 26, 2023), similar conditions are anticipated with squally winds of 45-55 kmph and gusts up to 65 kmph off the north Andhra Pradesh coast and the adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal. Along the Odisha-West Bengal coasts, squally weather with wind speeds of 40-45 kmph and gusts up to 50 kmph are expected.

As the system progresses, Day 3 (June 27, 2023) may witness squally weather with wind speeds of 40-45 kmph and gusts up to 50 kmph over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal.

Looking further ahead, Day 4 (June 28, 2023) and Day 5 (June 29, 2023) are likely to experience squally weather conditions with wind speeds ranging from 40-45 kmph and gusts up to 50 kmph over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

In light of these weather conditions, the IMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea in the specified areas during the indicated period. This precautionary measure is crucial to ensure the safety of fishermen and prevent any untoward incidents due to rough weather conditions.

The IMD, along with other concerned authorities, will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide regular updates to the public. It is essential for residents, especially those living along the coastal areas, to stay informed about the changing weather conditions and adhere to the guidelines and safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.

The Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam will remain vigilant and continue to provide timely information and support to the public, ensuring their safety in the face of this developing weather system.
