In a setback for motorists across Andhra Pradesh, the printing and distribution of vehicle registration certificates (RC) and driving licence (DL) cards has been temporarily halted due to a shortage of smart cards. The interruption in the supply and distribution of these essential documents has caused inconvenience to many individuals in the state.

Deputy Transport Commissioner G.C. Raja Ratnam stated that the printing of RC cards was completed up until December 20, 2021, while DL cards were printed up until November 30, 2021. These cards were dispatched through speed post to the respective applicants’ postal addresses. However, the printing process has been put on hold until a fresh stock of smart cards is received from the supplier.

To address the situation, the Transport Department has advised RC and DL applicants to download and utilize Form 6 and Form 23 from the department’s official website. These forms can be used as authorized documents until the issuance of the smart cards. Applicants are encouraged to visit the Transport Department’s website at https://aprtacitizen.epragathi.org/ for further instructions.

Highlighting a notification from the Government of India, Mr. Raja Ratnam emphasized that documents in electronic format should be considered as valid and authorized. This means that motorists can download their driving licence and registration certificate from the Road Transport Authority (RTA) website and present them to enforcement authorities during inspections.

This situation bears resemblance to a similar occurrence that took place two years ago when a shortage in the supply of smart cards resulted in prolonged delays in receiving DL and RC cards for many motorists.

While efforts are being made to resolve the issue and resume the printing and distribution of smart cards, motorists are advised to stay updated with the latest information provided by the Transport Department.
