Film actor Sarath Babu, also known as Satyam Babu Dixithulu, passed away on Monday at the age of 71 in Hyderabad due to sepsis and multiple organ failure. Sarath Babu brought fame to North Coastal Andhra Pradesh through his work in Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada films. Born on July 31, 1951, in Amadalavalasa, Srikakulam district, he had a prolific career spanning over 200 films in various languages. Sarath Babu’s contribution to the film industry was deeply mourned, with condolences pouring in from colleagues on social media. His body is expected to be taken to Chennai.
Andhra Pradesh State Assembly speaker Tammineni Sitaram, who also hailed from Amadalavalasa, expressed pride in Sarath Babu as a local and described his passing as a significant loss. Sarath Babu made his debut in the film industry in 1973 and gained popularity through the Tamil film “Nijal Nizhmagiradu” (1978) directed by K. Balachander. He was the recipient of eight State Nandi Awards. Author Koduru Sumana, known for her book “Samavedamlo Samajika Spruha,” which focused on the biography of legendary director K. Viswanadh, fondly recalled Sarath Babu releasing her book at a Chennai event in July the previous year.
