Four individuals, including a Senior Auditor and a data entry operator, have been remanded for 14 days by the CBI Court in Visakhapatnam on charges of corruption. The accused are Telikicherla Ramana Kumar, Senior Auditor, and Besetti D Danti Nokeswara Rao, data entry operator, both from the Area Accounts Office of CDA (Navy) in Visakhapatnam, along with two private individuals.
The arrests were made by the CBI ACB Vishakhapatnam based on reliable information. Ramana Kumar and Nokeswara Rao were allegedly collecting a bribe of ₹26,000 to clear pending bills for a contractor. The representative of the contractor, Subhash Mishra, was apprehended while paying the bribe, leading to the subsequent arrest of the contractor himself, Bhanupratap Yadav.
The CBI ACB in Visakhapatnam had received information that Ramana Kumar had demanded ₹26,000 from Bhanupratap Yadav to settle pending bills worth ₹26 lakh. On June 12, Yadav informed Kumar and Nokeswara Rao that he would be sending ₹26,000 through Subhasis Mishra of Blue Sea Marine Engineering.
Acting on this information, the CBI in Visakhapatnam registered a case and set up a trap, resulting in the arrests mentioned above. The four accused were presented before the Court of Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases and subsequently remanded to the Central Prison in Visakhapatnam.
Searches were conducted at the residences and office premises of the accused, leading to the seizure of certain incriminating documents. The case is currently under investigation.
