Nellore (Crime Department) – In a significant operation, the Sreepottisreeramulu Nellore District Police have apprehended six individuals involved in the transportation of ganja to Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. The arrest led to the seizure of 50 kg of ganja and two vehicles. SP Dr. K. Thirumaleshwara Reddy unveiled these details at the Umeshchandra Conference Hall of Police Parade Ground in Nellore on Monday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as G. Ananthasivaprasad from Kasarlapudi village in Rolugunta mandal of Anakapalli district, K. Srinu from Sarabhavara, V. Raju from Kothakota in Ravikamatam mandal, Raju from Maddilapaleni in Visakhapatnam city, K. Premkumar from Sitammadhara, and A. Rajesh from Swatantranagar in Maduravada, all of whom work as car drivers. They were involved in the collection of ganja from the border of Odisha, specifically the Paderu area. The seized ganja was intended to be sold to Karthik and Suresh from Chennai at a rate of Rs. 5,000 per kilogram.

Acting on accurate information, Kavali DSP Venkataramana and Rural CI M. Rajesh conducted inspections on the national highway near Kavali. The police intercepted two cars parked near Hotel VS9 Grand, where the six individuals were found during their lunch break. Their behavior raised suspicion, leading to their detention. Subsequent inspection of the vehicles revealed the presence of 50 kg of cannabis. The cars were seized, along with the confiscated marijuana. SP Reddy disclosed that the estimated value of the seized contraband amounts to Rs. 10 lakhs.

It has come to light that several cases are pending against the arrested individuals. Anantha Sivaprasad has cases registered against him at KDpet, Rolugunta, and Visakhapatnam Dwarka police stations. K. Srinu and A. Rajesh also have ganja-related cases filed against them in Rolugunta, with an additional case against A. Rajesh in Visakhapatnam PM Palem.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of ASP D. Himavathi, along with the participation of Kavali DSP Venkataramana, Kavali Rural CI Rajesh, Kavali Rural SSI Venkatarao, and other law enforcement officials.

The arrests and the seizure of ganja signify a significant step towards curbing the illegal drug trade in the region, as authorities continue to crack down on such illicit activities.
