Parking vehicles in designated no-parking areas may now result in significant financial consequences, as offenders will be required to pay substantial fines. In addition, offenders will be obliged to retrieve their vehicles from the police, as the city’s traffic police department has implemented a towing policy for vehicles that obstruct the passage of other commuters.
C.M. Trivikrama Varma, the Police Commissioner, announced on Tuesday that vehicles parked in no-parking zones will now be towed away. He urged individuals to park their vehicles in designated parking spaces or areas that do not disrupt the flow of traffic. It has been observed that some individuals park their vehicles in front of residential buildings and commercial establishments, causing road blockages. To address this issue, the police will tow away such vehicles and levy a no-parking fee, ranging from ₹1,500 to ₹2,000, in addition to a towing tax.
Mr. Trivikrama Varma also appealed to the public to promptly check and settle any pending e-challans issued against them. He recalled that the city police have been issuing an average of 1,500 e-challans for traffic violations.
