The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is undertaking a road widening project in Visakhapatnam to address traffic congestion. The project aims to widen the road from Jagadamba Centre to Old Post Office Junction, improving infrastructure and alleviating traffic issues in the area.
GVMC implemented a ban on single-use plastic in 2022, but recent months have seen a decline in compliance with the ban. Single-use plastic bags have made a comeback in shops, despite earlier efforts to encourage the use of cloth or jute bags. The GVMC had designated tourist spots as plastic-free zones and successfully enforced the ban during a temple festival. However, the resurgence of plastic bags is concerning, and stakeholders are urged to recommit to a plastic-free environment.
