Madhavadhara, Newstoday: In a grave concern, transport officials conducted a series of inspections on Tuesday targeting school buses found in violation of regulations. The Directorate of Transport Operations (DTO), represented by G.C. Rajaratnam, disclosed that legal action has been taken against four buses lacking fitness certification, with one being impounded. The inspections uncovered several violations, including absence of necessary medical supplies in the first aid kits, drivers not adhering to uniform requirements, inadequate gas levels in fire extinguishers, and absence of a designated helper.
Under the regulations set forth by the transport department, fitness certification is granted only if all 32 required elements in each bus meet the prescribed standards. If any deficiencies are identified, the buses are temporarily barred from operation until the issues are rectified, after which the certificates will be reissued. It has been announced that these special inspections will continue until the conclusion of the current month, emphasizing the commitment to enforcing compliance and ensuring the safety of students during their daily commutes.
