M.V.P. Colony, Newstoday – The Visakha crime police have successfully resolved a series of chain theft cases plaguing the city. Not only have they cracked three recent cases, but they’ve also apprehended suspects from older cases. DCP (Crime) G. Naganna disclosed that ten individuals have been taken into custody, with a total of 31 tolas of gold ornaments recovered in connection with eleven chain theft incidents reported across various police stations under the Visakha Police Commissionerate. The announcement was made during a press conference held on Saturday morning, where the details of these cases were unveiled.

Father and Son Duo Involved

Remarkably, a father and son were identified as culprits in four chain theft cases registered within the MVP Colony station area of the Dwarka substation. M. Surya (23), hailing from Tuni Rama Temple, arrived in the city accompanied by his stepfather, Venkateswara Rao, to carry out a string of robberies. Over the past few weeks, chain robberies had occurred in MVP Colony, Lawsansbe Colony, Murali Nagar, and various other parts of the city, prompting the crime police to deploy eight investigative teams. To crack the case, approximately 366 CC cameras within the city limits were scrutinized. The investigation ultimately led to the arrest of Surya. Surya’s motive for these thefts was the need for funds to build a house on their land in Tuni. Venkateswara Rao, having previously engaged in chain thefts, instructed Surya on the modus operandi and roped him into the criminal activity. The investigation revealed that the duo used a two-wheeler with a concealed number plate until they reached Visakhapatnam. Once in the city, they changed the vehicle’s number plate and targeted lone women to commit chain robberies. Venkateswara Rao is currently on the run, and together, they have stolen 18 tola of gold ornaments in four cases.

Losses in Rummy Led to Crimes

In connection with another chain theft case, it was revealed that two of the accused resorted to chain theft after incurring losses in a game of rummy. A. Bhanu, P. Papa, and B. Vamshi Raju were arrested for their involvement in a chain theft that occurred on the 21st of this month in the Malkapuram station area. Law enforcement authorities seized 2.5 tola of gold ornaments from them. Dinesh was detained in a case under the Gopalapatnam station, with 42 grams of gold jewelry seized. P. Amit Rao was arrested in two cases under the Bhimili station, and 67.5 grams of gold ornaments were confiscated. B. Dhanaraju, M. Ramesh, and B. Murali were also apprehended, and a 2-tola silver chain was recovered in the One Town Police Station jurisdiction. P. Suresh was arrested in a Malkapuram case. In total, approximately 31 tolas of gold ornaments were seized in all the cases. Numerous CIs and SIs actively participated in the operation.
