Visakhapatnam, June 5, 2023 – Visakha Mayor, Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari, and GVMC Commissioner, CM Saikanth Verma, have called upon the residents of the city to join hands in the fight against pollution. In a joint effort to promote sustainable transportation, they have urged citizens to leave their personal vehicles behind and make use of the public transport system on a weekly basis.
The GVMC (Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation) officials and employees have taken a step further by introducing a ‘No Vehicle Zone’ every Monday. This initiative aims to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and encourage individuals to explore alternative modes of transportation.
Mayor Kumari and Commissioner Verma, leading by example, have demonstrated their commitment to the cause. Mayor Kumari arrived at her office today in an auto-rickshaw, while Commissioner Verma pedaled his way on a bicycle. Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Kumari said, “It is crucial for each one of us to play our part in combating pollution. By leaving our vehicles behind and utilizing public transport, we not only contribute to a cleaner and greener environment but also alleviate traffic congestion in the city.”
