Visakhapatnam, June 10, 2023: Visakhapatnam experienced scorching temperatures as the mercury soared to 44.6 degrees Celsius at Visakhapatnam Airport on Saturday. This marks the highest temperature recorded in the city in the past 11 years.

The previous records show that the highest temperature reached 45.4 degrees Celsius on June 9, 1995, and 44 degrees Celsius on June 2, 2012. The heatwave conditions were felt not only in Vizag but also in various parts of Andhra Pradesh, causing discomfort to the residents, especially the elderly, children, and pregnant women.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Amaravati, Vizag witnessed the highest temperature, followed by Jangamaheswara Puram in Palnadu district at 43.4°C, and Visakhapatnam (Waltair) at 43.4°C. The IMD also predicted a further increase in temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius on Monday, with parts of the state experiencing heatwave conditions on Sunday and Monday.

However, there is some hope for relief as the IMD anticipates a thunderstorm with gusty winds on Sunday and Monday, which may bring respite from the hot and humid weather. The arrival of the southwest monsoon is also expected in Andhra Pradesh within the next few days.

In the meantime, residents of Andhra Pradesh are advised to bear with the uncomfortable weather conditions until the arrival of the monsoon, which is expected to provide relief from the scorching heat and humidity.
