In response to widespread rumors circulating in a section of the media and certain WhatsApp groups, Police Commissioner C.M. Trivikrama Varma clarified on Sunday that no official orders had been issued to close all shops and commercial establishments in the city by 10 p.m. The rumors claimed that these closures were a response to the recent murder of a 28-year-old woman near the Gokul Park area.

Commissioner Varma categorically stated that the reports circulating in the media and shared through messaging platforms were devoid of any truth. He emphasized that there was no basis for the claims suggesting the closure of shops along the Beach Road stretch.

The rumors had caused confusion and concern among citizens, leading to a sense of uncertainty regarding the operating hours of various establishments. To alleviate such anxieties, the Police Commissioner deemed it necessary to address the matter directly.

While acknowledging the tragic incident of the woman’s murder, Commissioner Varma assured the public that law enforcement agencies were actively investigating the case. However, he emphasized that such investigations did not warrant any blanket closure orders for businesses.
