VISAKHAPATNAM: In a swift operation, the Visakhapatnam police successfully rescued the wife and son of YSRCP MP MVV Satyanarayana and his close associate, auditor Gannamani Venkateswara Rao (GV), who were kidnapped from their residence in Vizag’s MVP Colony. The incident, which unfolded like a scene from a crime web series, sent shockwaves through the city. However, within hours, the police formed multiple teams and apprehended all the accused individuals involved in the abduction.

GV, a trusted ally of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and former chairman of the Visakhapatnam Smart City Development Corporation, was abducted while meeting the kidnappers separately. The motive behind the kidnapping is yet to be definitively established, but speculations suggest that it may be linked to real estate issues or a ransom demand.

MP MVV and GV are currently engaged in a substantial real estate project valued at approximately Rs 2,000 crore in the Pedawaltair uplands near the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner’s house in the Siripuram area. The land in question, allegedly owned by a Christian minority society, had been mired in legal disputes, which reportedly have now been resolved.

The primary accused in the case is identified as Choppari Hemanth Kumar, a notorious criminal with a history of violence. Sources indicate that he orchestrated the kidnapping of MP MVV’s wife and son and later contacted GV, luring him into a trap. As the kidnappers attempted to leave the city, the police apprehended them, ensuring the safe rescue of the victims.

Speaking to TOI, City Police Commissioner CM Trivikram Varma confirmed the arrest of all the individuals involved in the abduction. He assured the public that the kidnapped individuals were unharmed and that a thorough investigation into the case was underway.

It has been reported that Hemanth Kumar, a known rowdy sheeter from Malkapuram, was recently involved in a murder case. Allegedly, he demanded a staggering ransom of Rs 50 crore for the release of the kidnapped individuals. Sources close to the case suggest that ongoing land disputes related to the MP and GV’s business ventures may have played a role in instigating the abduction.

The swift action by the Visakhapatnam police in rescuing the victims and apprehending the criminals has brought a sense of relief to the city. The investigation into the incident continues, with authorities diligently examining all possible angles to determine the exact motive behind the kidnapping.
